I have to admit I did not like the first book in this series. In fact it has been months since I have read it, and I cannot even remember it. I had purchased all 3 of these books at the same time, and finally decided to pick this one back and try it again. I will have to say I am glad I did as I did enjoy it more than the first one … although,it was not my absolute favorite but it was worthwhile reading in my opinion. I guess my issues where with the fact that I had trouble with the disobedience and unruliness that I felt that Daniel’s children where exhibiting throughout the book, as well as, much of the conflict throughout the book. Yes, much of children’s behavior was because they needed a mother’s love but still I guess it bothered me. Now, Grace definitely needed a LOT of compassion at the beginning of the book and understanding certainly goes a long way … maybe somewhere along the line, I had more of a problem tolerating something throughout these books that I could not give them the 4 or 5 stars but I will admit I enjoye them enough to finish reading them, but I would not purchase the series again. I am about a 1/3 of the way through reading the 3rd book and I am struggling with it a bit more than I did with the 2nd book and I hope that changes. The books are somewhat enjoyable in a strange sort of way for me, just not as delightful as they appeared to the other reviewers which makes me sad. Maybe as this grandmother of 6, I have a different perspective on this than others … I don’t know I cannot figure it out … I love so many other authors including Tamara Alexander, Deeanne Gist, Tracie Peterson & Cathy Marie Hake, to name a few. As well as, I like many many other Christian authors so I am not sure why I am struggling with this series so much but I found myself doing so, obviously others did not which I am very glad they enjoyed it as much as they did.
